
The fine folks at Texas Instruments in Dallas are rolling out a major advertising campaign for their proprietary DLP HDTV display technology.
There will be TV ads reprising the “It’s the mirrors” tag line, a new spot with a guy who dunks a basketball after doing two full rotations in mid-flight, the ongoing sponsorship of the Nextel Cup NASCAR No. 96 DLP HDTV Chevrolet and a slew of other items.
That’s great and all, but I think TI’s biggest battle is going to be convincing potential customers that a boxy DLP television is better than a slim plasma or LCD.
Yes, DLPs are getting thinner, and the prices are generally still much cheaper than for a comparatively sized flat panel.
But a lot of people now simply associate HDTV with flat panel displays.
