You can read my interview that ran today in the paper with Verizon chief technology officer Mark Wegleitner about the growth and potential upgrades for Fios, but you won’t find any reference to TBS HD or the Dallas Mavericks on HDNet.
That’s because Mr. Wegleitner declined to reveal the timeline for Verizon to add new HD channels, and was as puzzled as I was at the “technical problems” with broadcasting Mavs games on HDNet.
So we’ll all have to wait for the official announcements on new channels.
But I am hoping to hear back from Verizon this week on what the deal is with the Mavs games.
Incidentally, I’m hearing from several people who get their cable television from a provider other than Verizon who said they too couldn’t find the Mavs-Spurs game on HDNet the other night.
But read a little farther down that link I put up yesterday, and you’ll notice that the HDNet Mavs broadcasts are actually on alternate channels, while regular programming continues on the main HDNet channel.
So I think those non-Fios viewers probably could have watched the game, but the broadcast was stashed away on some obscure station that’s normally blank and those viewers never knew where to look.
There has to be a better way to get these games broadcast in HD for every fan to see.
