Wired Magazine’s incredibly useful how-to wiki has an interesting entry on file sharing via Usenet. I had never tried Usenet before reading this article — it turns many people off with a primitive look and feel that predates the Mac/Windows interface — but I found it easy to use and bursting with interesting stuff.
The main advantage to using Usenet is speed. Unlike peer-to-peer sharing services such as BitTorrent, where someone else’s slow connection can slow your downloads, Usenet relies only upon the speed of your connection. If you have a fast connection, you can pull things down very fast.
