Hmm, this sounds a little dubious, but there’s a report out that Al Qaeda is planning some sort of online cyber attack (presumably against the U.S.) on Nov. 11 (i.e. next Sunday).

Sounds scary, but the report at Wired makes this alert seem kind of goofy, since the security company that reported the threat claimed that the Secret Service is warning people about the attack, while the Secret Service itself says it has not released any official threat notice.

Frankly, I think Al Qaeda would much rather shoot us or blow us up than crash our e-mail (and who wouldn’t like a break from their in-box? Osama, do your worst!).

But then I read this from the Wired item:

The radical ‘hackers’ are presumed to be targeting large e-commerce sites, with the intent of preventing Americans from being able to shop online, according to Mullikin.

What!? Stop us from shopping? How dare they!?

That’s it. The gloves are off.
