It won’t be long before plopping in the driver’s seat of your car feels more like taking Captain Kirk’s chair on the Enterprise.

Market research firm Strategy Analytics reported this week that it expects 85 percent of new cars produced in Europe and North America to have voice-activated controls by 2013.

Most of those systems will be used for hands-free control of cell phones and MP3 players, the report says, but really any electrical systems in a car, from power windows to the air conditioning, could be voice-controlled.

Of course, once we get our robot-controlled, self-driving cars, we won’t need to worry about hands-free anything.
