Dashing your hopes in 3…2…1…

After I posted the reports that an Eee PC with a 10-inch screen was in the works for next year, I got in touch with a spokeswoman at Asus.

Her response:

I have checked with our Eee PC product manager and he said that at the moment we (US subsidiary) don’t have any plan to do so. The factory can’t even make the current Eee PC fast enough for the holiday demand.

Of course, this includes the standard non-denial denial — “at the moment” — so they could turn around tomorrow and announce the 10-inch model and say, well, the plans have changed.

I have a feeling, though, that they really are going to have a tough time meeting demand for the current models, at least for the next few months, given how sleek and cool and, well, cute these things are.

But you can bet that Asus will need a new Eee model on the market by the time Christmas 2008 rolls around, and a 10-inch screen and 8 gigs of memory would do just fine.
