The world becomes a more fascinating place every day.
The BBC reports that Boston University researchers are on the verge of being able to use electrodes to scan the words that a paralyzed man is thinking and then transform those thoughts into actual sounds.
In other words, a paralyzed person can imagine a sound in his brain, the machine recognizes the pattern of brain activity associated with that word, and then spits the word out of a speaker.
In other words, computers can now read your mind.
Now, the researchers caution that their technology will probably only be 80% percent accurate initially at figuring out what words you’re trying to vocalize in your brain.
But it’s just another sign that the integration of mind with machine is coming along faster than you’d think.
