Okay, you won’t be able to have conversations with your car, but you will have vocal command over the radio, your cellphone, the heat and AC, plus the GPS system.
You can even command your MP3 player to play particular songs or podcasts. Plus, if you get a text message on your phone, the car will read it to you. I’m not sure if the system will let you dictate a response just yet, but that’s doubtless on the horizon.
The system will be available in 12 models from the Ford/Lincoln/Mercury family almost instantly and should eventually be in every Ford car. TMCnet provides a fuller account here.
A British tech blog called The Register suggests the best possible ad campaign for the new system: A series of Knight Rider inspired commercials with David Hasslehoff.
