The sixth season of 24 comes out on DVD today, which initially was a bummer for my wife and me, since we’ve been working our way through the Jack Bauer canon over the last few months and finished season five last weekend.
While we’d been catching up with most of the episodes via Netflix, we’d also occasionally downloaded a show via Amazon’s Unbox video service when a Netflix disc was cracked or we couldn’t wait to see the conclusion to a particularly thrilling cliffhanger.
When I learned that the sixth season wasn’t out yet on DVD, I assumed it wouldn’t be on Unbox, either. But, lo, it was. Every episode.
It’s not quite DVD-quality, but it’s good enough.
Unbox has been around for a little while now, but this incident just made me realize how comfortable I’ve become with watching full-length TV shows online through official, non-piracy channels, whether it’s The Office on NBC.com, or 24 on Unbox.
I’m not ready to ditch my cable TV service yet. But that day is getting closer.
