google%20blotter See Dallas crimes plotted on Google Maps

Dallas Morning News reporter Steve Thompson highlights a new tool for tracking crime in your neighborhood: the “Google blotter.”

Just enter your zip code and you’ll see the location of each offense reported in the last 30 days.

The site, right now, is Dallas-only, so no data is available for, say, Irving or other adjacent cities.

While the basic site is free, you can also sign up for a pay subscription for more advanced tools, such as crime alerts sent to your cellphone or PDA, which could come in handy if you’re Batman.

UPDATE: Here’s a simpler link to the City of Dallas site that Bobbi mentions below. Note that the original DMN story does mention the city’s own site, but says it’s “not as detailed or up-to-date.”
