You won’t be able to buy Amazon’s new e-book reader, the Kindle, for Christmas this year — the product is sold out until Amazon can get more in stock — but folks who are interested in the device may want to read my review, which ran in today’s paper.

I was generally impressed with the device. It’s light enough to carry anywhere. It stores hundreds of books. The screen minimizes eye strain. Best of all, the built in cellular connectivity lets users download books from anyplace they can use a cellphone.

That said, I think most folks should hold off on buying a Kindle until Amazon releases a second version that fixes some of the numerous annoyances of this first version. I’d also like to see the price come down. $399 is a lot to pay for something that looks like a toy.
