Gadget news blog Gizmodo decided to take a break from reporting the news while at the Consumer Electronics Show and venture into the realm of third-rate vandalism.
Bloggers for the site acquired one of those universal television remotes that simply let you turn off any set in the vicinity without having to program in a code.
So the dorks at Gizmodo went around switching off TVs left and right, including televisions being used on-stage during corporate presentations, and filmed the entire escapade.
Then the geniuses at Gizmodo posted the video on their blog and openly took credit for it, showing it’s possible to be even dumber than those teenagers who film themselves shooting innocent pedestrians with paintball guns.
The Gizmodans seem to think this was a harmless prank that went slightly overboard, and most of the people commenting on the post agree.
Maybe this turns out to be much ado about nothing, but I imagine Motorola (for one) is pretty ticked. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gizmodo finds it a lot harder to get press credentials to future conventions.
Plus, this sort of two-bit “Look at me!” sabotage makes it harder for every other blogger out there who is trying to do serious work to actually get taken seriously.
Bad show, Gizmodo.
