When Microsoft unveiled its computer-in-a-table last Spring, the company planned to roll units out to hotels and other businesses by the end of 2007. Consumers, however, would have to wait at least 5 years for in-home models of the device, which is dubbed The Surface.
Well, the gap between commercial and consumer releases seems to be narrowing. Microsoft has missed its deadline for commercial sales. (It now hopes to deliver its first Surfaces to business customers this Spring).
Consumers, on the other hand, may be able to enjoy the Surface sooner than expected. CEO Steve Ballmer says that people who try the Surface ask so much about when they’ll be able to get one that Microsoft could be selling them at Best Buy a bit earlier than expected.
The official Microsoft video above makes the Surface look like a wise purchase, naturally. The video below, which is one of the funniest fake ads I’ve ever seen, gives some reason to doubt the wisdom of buying a Surface.
