Wal-Mart sends word that it is now carrying a digital-to-analog television converter box from Magnavox.
Each box — which allows analog TV owners to continue to receive over-the-air broadcasts after the digital switchover next year — retails for $49.87, or $9.87 after you use your $40 coupon.
This has got to be the ultimate low-margin business, though, so it’s not surprising that Wal-Mart will also be telling customers that they can bypass the whole analog fade-out by just buying a nice, big high definition television.
Which is true, but will certainly cost you more than $9.87.
On the other hand, another big government check will likely be winging its way to your pocket this summer, and while some might counsel paying down your debt, I scoff at such advice and suggest this might be the perfect time to go TV shopping.
