Apple has finally released a massive update to its Leopard operating system. The software patch, which takes up more than 100 MB of space, fixes more than 130 bugs. The release made my Mac faster and more stable. It also eliminated an annoying problem: the system crashed whenever the computer went to sleep.

The update also paves the way for the release of new MacBook Pros. OS X 10.5.2 — as the software is technically known — apparently comes with support for the multi-touch trackpad that Apple introduced with its MacBook Air. That functionality should come with the new Mac Book Pros, according to the rumor mill.

To get the update, click the System Preferences button in the Application folder. Then click the software update button. After you download the Leopard patch, go back to Software Update, hit the button again and then download the Leopard graphics patch. The second update, which is also a major chunk of software, won’t show up until you’ve downloaded the initial patch.
