Apparently Europeans aren’t nearly as keen on high definition television as us Yanks.

Market research firm Strategy Analytics noted last week that two of Germany’s HD channels were shut down in February do to tiny audiences, and just 5 percent of Europeans who own HD televisions are actually watching HD channels.

The researchers try to put a brave face on, predicting that 20 percent of European households will be watching HD channels by 2012.

But HD penetration in the U.S. is already above 30 percent, so our wine-drinking and cheese-munching comrades across the pond are clearly not jumping into the HD era with the same vigor as we Americans.
