Victor noted a few days back that YouTube has been steadily upgrading the image quality of many videos, but I didn’t notice any particular difference when I went to the site yesterday.

A few minutes of investigation revealed that the best way to get the highest quality videos is to ask for them. Folks who have user accounts can do that by changing their Account Settings.

On my Apple, the relevant screen looked like this:

, where I learned of this command, YouTube is supposed to sense connection speeds and automatically send the best videos that will play smoothly on your set. That said, I seemed to get better stuff after I changed my setting.
