As a consolation prize for early adopters who bet on the wrong high-def horse, Best Buy is sending out $50 gift cards to anyone who bought an HD-DVD player from the retailer before February 23, 2008.

And that’s $50 per HD-DVD player purchased, if you for some reason bought more than one.

While 50 bucks probably won’t come close to equaling what most people paid for their HD-DVD players, hey, it’s a lot better than zero bucks.
