A company called PeopleCD sent out an announcement this morning that it has released the latest versions of its stripped-down Web browsers for youngsters.

There are four versions of the Kidz CD browser: ages 1 to 6, ages 7 to 12, one version for ages 13 and up with a chat program, and one for ages 13 and up without a chat program.

All versions of the browser, which is still in beta, are free.

I took a quick look at the youngest and oldest versions, and I’m guessing the version for younger Web surfers will be more useful than the others.

The most noticeable feature across all the versions is the lack of an address bar. That means you can’t enter any URL, but are limited to clicking on the links in the various categories in the browser.

While that’s probably a good feature for really young users, I imagine most 13 year olds will get frustrated, shut down the browser and fire up Firefox.

Still, Kidz CD could be good training wheels for first-time Web surfers.
