Last fall, I wrote that DirecTV hoped to begin selling fast Internet to some customers in central Dallas by New Year’s. That’s nothing unusual, of course, but the method of delivery is. The company planned to transmit all that information over electrical wires.
A few readers contacted me over the past few weeks to ask for an update. Most of them were DirecTV customers who thought they lived within the service area, but none of them had received any offer from DirecTV.
So, they wondered, did DirecTV miss the mark? Did Current Communications, the company that is building the network, fall down on the job?
The short answer is “no.” The new service is actually up and running. For more information, you’ll need to read my story in Friday’s business section.
Once you’re done with that, check back here for a dispiriting report from one would-be customer. I couldn’t include him in the actual story because he’s a reporter who sits right next to me, but we thought his story should be told.
