I’ve written a few times recently about health-related Web sites from Google and Microsoft. Both of them should provide all patients who sign up with a central repository for all their medical records from birth till death — and provide a valuable resource to any doctor who tries to treat them.
PatientsLikeMe is different. It gathers incredibly detailed information from folks who have severe chronic illnesses such as AIDS or MS. It asks them exactly what symptoms they experience at exactly what times. It asks how long symptoms last and what they feel like. And it asks about their medications and other treatments.
The idea is to create a huge database that will let people with some of the worst conditions imaginable learn what might work better for them. The New York Times has a long but fascinating artlcle about PatientLikeMe in this week’s magazine.
