The NBA has invited me and fellow tech blogger Andrew Smith out to the Magnolia theater in Dallas tonight to watch a 3D, high definition broadcast of the game between the Mavs and the Clippers.
We’ll be reporting on our impressions of the technology, and I promise not to rant too much about my despair over the team’s chances of making the playoffs (get better soon, Dirk!).
The broadcast is more than just a publicity stunt, since Mavs owner Mark Cuban has a ton of money invested in the movie business with HDNet and 2929 Entertainment and even Landmark Theatres, which owns the Magnolia:
“I think 3-D will play a huge role in out-of-home entertainment for the next few years,” said Cuban, founder of HDNet. “It will be a unique experience for watching sports, concerts and special events that only theaters will be able to offer.”
We’ll see.
