Mitsubishi’s LaserVue laser television (Source: Mitsubishi)
Mitsubishi announced its latest batch of HD televisions today, and among the announcements of new LCD and DLP sets was confirmation that the company’s laser TV will hit stores in the fall.
The laser TV is a rear-projection technology like DLP, but Mitsubishi says the laser set, well, here’s what they say:
“Today’s HDTVs display less than 40 percent of the color spectrum that the eye can see. Now, for the first time ever, laser produces twice the color. Laser beams provide the widest range of rich, complex colors, along with the most clarity and depth of field.
Mitsubishi LaserVue TVs not only provide the ultimate picture quality, they are also capable of delivering a true 3D viewing experience. In addition, they are environmentally friendly, consuming approximately one-half the power of today’s LCD TVs, and approximately one-third the power consumption of plasma TVs.”
Andrew wasn’t particularly impressed by the laser TVs he saw at CES earlier this year, but blamed the the Studio 54-esque viewing environment for making it hard to tell if the sets were actually noticeably better than other technologies.
Via Engadget, where most of the commenters are making Austin Powers jokes. Not a good sign for Mitsubishi.
