The film industry has filed a number of lawsuits recently, hoping to destroy file sharing sites that ignore copyrights.

The strategy has succeeded against some individual sites, but by providing free publicity to file sharing sites, the lawsuits seem to be driving more business to the sites that remain (along with new ones that keep springing up).

Ars Technica reports that BitTorrent traffic has spiked 24 percent since November.

Torrented content is also evolving as more people start using the protocol. Previously, BigChampagne used to see a lot of feature films and individual TV shows. Feature films are still popular, but TV shows are increasingly being bundled into multi-episode packs. “People are migrating towards three packs, six packs, and even whole seasons,” Garland said. “Click once to get 13 hours of programming instead of clicking 13 times.”
