Gizmodo blogger Brian Lam caught up with Michael Dell at the All Things Digital conference on Wednesday and noticed that Dell (the man) was carrying a much smaller laptop than anything Dell (the company) sells.
Caught red-handed, Dell (the man) gave Lam a swift look at the device, which has been designed for “the next billion World wide web users” in developing countries.
Dell (the company) confirmed Lam’s story and released a couple new photos that give a sense of the new computer’s scale. No word yet on specs, price, release date or name.
Whenever it does come out, the new device will face a lot of competition. In addition to the XO computer designed by the One Laptop per Child effort, mini-models from Intel, Asus and HP will target similar markets.
Dell will release quarterly earnings later today.
