If some of your favorite Web sites are out of commission this weekend, it might be due to an electrical fire on Saturday at a server farm with 9,000 machines in Houston that is owned by The Planet.

Only the power was lost, leaving the servers intact, but as of early Sunday afternoon, operations still aren’t back to normal.

But you can read all about the overnight recovery effort at the company’s corporate blog.

It’s interesting to see how The Planet responded to the crisis with constant information updates, even when it was just to inform anxious customers that technicians were working on the problem with no estimated repair time.

Incidentally, The Planet also has four facilities in Dallas, including one that I pass every day on my commute to work.
