The people can make their voices heard — perhaps not on the silly issues they discuss in Washington — but at least on the really important stuff, like video recommendations.
Netflix said a couple weeks ago that it would abandon its profiles feature, which lets different people who use the same account create their own wish lists and get personalized recommendations.
Netflix said that the change would help it streamline its Web site, but users complained and Netflix backed down. Profiles are here to stay, Netflix says.
Because of an ongoing desire to make our website easier to use, we believed taking a feature away that is only used by a very small minority would help us improve the site for everyone. Listening to our members, we realized that users of this feature often describe it as an essential part of their Netflix experience. Simplicity is only one virtue and it can certainly be outweighed by utility.
