iPhone launch: If you can't activate your iPhone, revive your old handset
Posted by: in General NewsA SIM card is a tiny little chip that lets each phone connect to the proper carrier — and to a particular account with that carrier — and have a particular phone number.
One of the best things about them is that it’s pretty easy to pull them out of one phone and stick them back into another.
Thus, if you find yourself with a non-working iPhone 3G this afternoon, you may be able to remove its SIM card, stick it into your old (working) phone and get cellular service.
When iPhone activation problems are fixed, you’ll be able to switch it back.
Note: this trick won’t work if you just switched from another carrier to AT&T, but if you’re just changing from one AT&T phone to another, you may be able to get a working phone by switching the SIM card.
Here are instructions for those who want to give it a go.
