In the annals of botched hardware launches, a few moments stick out:
Microsoft’s Xbox 360 video game console
Sony’s PlayStation 3 video game console
Apple’s iPhone 3G
But the iPhone 3G may well be the worst ever.
Not only was the activation software borked in stores, but demand for the unit turned out to be far greater than supply, much greater than it was during the launch of the original iPhone, when most people could just walk into a store at the end of launch day and buy a phone.
Now, in a few days (although I’m guessing it will be more like a week), this might all be ancient history.
But for now, I think it’s safe to file this under “debacle.”
