While the rest of the Dallas area seems to be dealing with all manner of natural, human and technical disaster as they try to get their hands on their iPhones, I’m faced with a truly horrifying conundrum.
What icons do I keep on my home screen?
I have yet to figure out a consistent and amusing layout for my primary home screen since Apple added the capability to include Web Apps a while back. Now the problem is further complicated by the addition of native applications. With no buttons it becomes important to know the general area of where a particular application is to save time when pulling the phone out of your pocket. When you move an icon, not knowing where everything is causes a momentary pause that can become incredibly frustrating over time.
So Stocks is an easy one to move to another page, but the moment I do that the entire flow of the page reorders and moves the locations of the other Apps whose locations I have subconsciously memorized. Again and again I tap the calendar app when I want to click the calculator app because their positions moved from where I originally had them.
What do you do with Settings? I mean, I use it practically everyday for various reasons, like turning off wifi or turn the brightness down to save battery life. But it seems like such a blight there. Shouldn’t the home screen be for all my productivity apps?
Should I keep a page of games and a page of bookmarks and a page of miscellaneous? Should I leave a couple spaces on the home screen to try out a couple different apps?
I’d love to hear from someone about what Apps you have or plan to keep at the top of your page and whether you have a smart system for organizing Apps so that it doesn’t constantly throw you off.
Here’s what my home looks like right now:
