Customers who buy Road Runner Turbo from Time Warner Cable might soon notice that downloads seem a bit zippier. That’s because the company has launched a new feature that provides a temporary speed surge during huge downloads.

Rather than maxing out at the normal 10 megabits per second, the new Powerboost system ups the limit to 16MB. Powerboosts only last a few seconds, and users won’t get them when network traffic is heavy, but TWC says the difference will be immediately noticeable.
