As you may notice from this x-ray image of me sitting at my desk, my posture isn’t so good.

I’ve resolved on dozens of occasions to fix the situation, and I do — for a couple of days. Then, my resolve wears down, my shoulders slump forward, and my forehead starts pointing at the ground rather than the horizon.

I’d always thought that the only hope was to hire someone to trail me around for several months, nagging me at the first sign of a slouch, until good posture came naturally.

But now, technology offers fresh hope.

A new gizmo from a company called iPosture looks like a large button but is actually a combination motion detector and microchip that senses when you’re slouching and tells you to straighten up.

It’s rather like having my grandmother in a very small container.

I’ve already ordered a review copy, and will report back on how effective the device is. The only immediately apparent problem is price.

The iPosture button costs $100, which seems steep for a piece of plastic the size of a silver dollar. But actually that’s a bargain if it can fix the slouching problem for me and others.
