At a U.S. District Court in Tyler, an inventor has filed a patent lawsuit against nine companies, including Google, Verizon and LG, for allegedly infringing on his claims to visual voicemail, Reuters reports.

Visual voicemail allows users to see and select voice messages via an on-screen menu, similar to e-mail.
Apple, which has made the biggest splash with visual voicemail on the iPhone, settled with the inventor — Judah Klausner — after he filed a suit in 2007. Other large companies have also reached settlements and license agreements with Mr. Klausner and his New York-based company Klausner Technologies Inc.
Mr. Klausner began filing lawsuits regarding his visual voicemail patents in 2005, beginning with AOL.
Update: Here’s a PDF copy of the complaint filed this morning, including detailed explanations and drawings of the disputed patents.
